Contraindications

NMS-Clip

Are there any reasons for not using the NMS Clip?

The NMS Clip and possible contraindications

When someone suffers from sleep apnoea, this can be accompanied by serious obstructive breathing disorders, often in association with dysgnathia (abnormality of the mandible and maxilla) receding gums and also, on many occasions, retro-location of the lower jaw. This cranio-mandibular dysfunction need not prevent the use of the NMS Clip. On the contrary, the NMS Clip can be very effective in the treatment of light to moderate cases of obstructive sleep apnoea. In cases of protrusion of the lower jaw, the NMS Clip can widen, by up to 56%, the rear pharyngeal region of healthy persons and apnoea sufferers alike. This is not just due to the mechanical effect on the pharyngeal region, but also to the reflex reactions of the muscles of the mouth and pharynx, which cause the tongue to remain automatically in its forward position, thus having a positive effect on the tendency to snore.

Correctly-attached veneers, crowns and most other dental prostheses do not suppose any problem where the use of the NMS clip is concerned, and are in fact protected thanks to the prevention of grinding and pressure on the teeth that the device provides.

The NMS Clip is, however, not suitable for denture users.

If in doubt, please consult with your doctor or dentist.
